5 Ways to Energize Your Day and Increase Productivity

As an entrepreneur, you have experienced that your level of energy is the driving force of your business. Therefore, letting your fuel run low isn’t a luxury you can afford, nor is it a pleasant feeling that fits your brilliance. Therefore, here are 5 useful tips you can apply to start your day with a boost of energy, and maintain it until the end:

Eat breakfast

A study by the American Society for Clinical Nutrition found that breakfast consumption is closely associated with energy density (known as ED, the amount of stored energy per unit mass your body can extract to carry on with your daily activities.) Therefore, a good breakfast is primordial in giving your body the calories it needs to get the work done daily.Australian dietitian and nutritionist Julie Meek suggests overnight oats, high fiber cereals, whole grain toast accompanied by a power protein, and a super smoothie as part of your breakfast.

It’s also very important not only to not skip meals, but also to snack healthily throughout the day. A snack such as low-fat yogurt with a sprinkling of nuts, and honey will help your body take in in the carb-fiber-protein mix gradually, remaining full for longer and producing a steady amount of energy for you to use.

Exercise and remain active

Exercising can make you feel more energized, sharp and confident. What better way to start your day? You can feel some of its benefits right after you have exercised: your body will be more oxygenated, tension will be released, and it will allow you to become more focused; and not only high-intensity sessions can make a difference, but also your overall activity level throughout your day.

Studies have found that maintaining a low to moderate amount of activity throughout the day can be more significant than an hour of moderate to vigorous exercise, followed by inactivity. If you’re desk-bound, make sure to take constant breaks to stretch, walk, and do a few exercises that increase your heartrate.

Listen to music that uplifts you

Research has found that music has a powerful effect on how we feel, and that its positive effects can be experienced for prolonged periods of time after being exposed to it. Listen to upbeat music that you like throughout the day, and enjoy its energy-boosting effects.

Take vitamin B12

Vitamin B-12 is essential for your neurological health, helps to produce red blood cells preventing anemia, and is a key element for DNA preservation and duplication (meaning that when you don’t have enough vitamin B-12, your body is unable to regenerate cells effectively and you experience the effects of early aging such as muscular weakness, incontinence, mental fog, and dementia, among others.) It is also one of the key vitamins that help your body turn food into energy, so its consumption can help you feel more energized throughout the day.

A good way to receive this vitamin is by consuming animal products such as meat, poultry and fish. If you’re vegetarian or don’t consume meat regularly, you may take B-Complex or B-12 in liquid form or tablets (it is recommended that for optimal absorption you place the tablet underneath your tongue.) As far as dosage, the Food and Nutrition Board (FNB) of the US Institute of Medicine recommends the average adult to take 2.4 mcg of vitamin B-12 daily.

Write a to-do list

A longitudinal analysis on several studies found that goal setting is a key motivator for individuals in the workplace. In the same fashion, defining your objectives and going for them on a daily basis can give you great motivation and make you feel inspired and purpose-driven. Take a moment the day before to write a to-do list of steps that will help you accomplish your bigger goals, and tackle as many of them as you can the next day.
